Support Services

How Do We Support Students?

At Marist Regional College we view each student as an individual and as a whole person, with physical, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs. We believe that we are all part of a community (students, staff, parents and the wider College community) that works together to meet these needs and get the best out of our students.

Student Support: Enabling and Extending Learning

Central to Marist Regional College's Mission, is to ensure that every student has an opportunity to experience excellence in holistic education. Our College strives to cater for the needs of every student, irrespective of background, disability, strengths, and challenges.

  • Student Support is led by our Director of Student Support, a member of the College Leadership Team, with two Student Support Coordinators, one for Years 7/8 and the other for Years 9-12.
  • Intervention Teachers play a critical role in supporting our students, particularly in Literacy, Numeracy, and English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD).
  • The College has an Extended Learning Coordinator who carefully assists with programs for students who show significant gifts and talents, complementing programs facilitated through the Student Support space and their core curriculum.

Supporting students with diverse backgrounds is also prioritised. We have one of the highest numbers of enrolled students who identify as Indigenous in Catholic Education Tasmania. Dedicated staff are assigned to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students as coordinators and support staff.

Student Wellbeing

Our Wellbeing Team of Counsellors and a Wellbeing Technical Assistant provide counselling and other support to ensure our students are safe, emotionally secure and able to manage the stressors of their day to day lives.  These staff support students in building independence in preparation for the later stages of their schooling and life.

We are also able to facilitate additional testing to identify areas of focus or refer to other professionals as appropriate. Current areas of focus include supporting children with specific learning disabilities, ADHD, sensory processing differences, gifted and talented, autism spectrum disorder, mental health challenges and hearing loss.

Access to these services is through your child's Year Level Coordinator

Careers and Pathways

Marist Regional College values high-quality career education and offers a comprehensive Careers and Pathways service led by a qualified Careers Advisor

Students have access to personalised one-on-one appointments (which can also include family members) to explore career options, make informed decisions, and receive guidance and support when navigating university, vocational education and training, employment, and other post-school pathways.

The College’s Pathway Planning Program further supports every student through structured career development and subject selection for Years 11 and 12.

The Careers Office also coordinates a wide range of school-based and external opportunities, including workplace exposure experiences, career events, university and vocational training programs, and presentations from industry and post-school education providers. These opportunities are designed to broaden students’ understanding of the world of work and inspire confident, well-informed pathway choices.
