At Marist Regional College we aim to achieve best teaching and learning practice in an environment where each student values and enjoys learning. Our programs are well-resourced, giving staff the freedom to cater for individual student needs.
Staff enjoy a collaborative working environment where skills and knowledge are shared, and where a high value is placed on continued professional learning and achievement.
Our students are taught to be effective communicators who are able to engage in high-level critical thinking, creativity, problem solving and teamwork. Students are encouraged to be self-directed, ethical and responsible. Opportunities for the development of leadership skills are considered an essential aspect of the curriculum, and students are given many opportunities to apply these skills through their academic and extra-curricular pursuits.
The Tasmanian Department of Education Essential Learnings have been incorporated into the curriculum to enhance the existing subject disciplines and to link them more effectively.
The curriculum reflects our desire to adapt and remain relevant in a rapidly changing society that demands flexibility and forward thinking from educational providers.
In Years 7-10 students undertake compulsory units in Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Studies of Society and Environment, and Health and Physical Education. Students may also choose a variety of optional subjects from each of the key learning areas, including Languages other than English, the Arts and Technology.
Our senior curriculum caters for students with varied interests and abilities. We have a commendable record for academic success, with a high percentage of our Year 12 students qualifying for university entry each year. Our general and pre-tertiary academic program is complemented by a range of skills-based VET programs that provide flexible learning alternatives for those students not wishing to pursue a university education. |
