Pastoral care at Marist Regional College means being aware of one another, caring for each other and responding to the needs of each College member. Each person deserves to be supported and treated with equity and justice.
Pastoral care is proactive, it is a presence, an ability to be there for each other. The example given to us through Christ and his apostles pervades everything within our environment. Pastoral Care is seeking to fulfill the great yearning of Jesus “I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly” Jn 10: 10.
The Catholic School is committed to the development of the whole person, since in Christ, the Perfect Man all human values find their fulfillment and unity.
(The Catholic School, 1977 p. 36)
Our College Pastoral care policy aims to
- develop quality relationships among all members of the school based on respect, authenticity, acceptance, truth and hope;
- provide satisfying learning experiences which are relevant, challenging, involving and which develop self-discipline, responsibility, initiative, creativity, leadership and a sense of achievement;
- endeavour to enhance students' self esteem. Greater self esteem leads to higher academic results, enhanced social skills, appropriate learning skills, and a greater ability to handle life's challenges.
The Class teacher is responsible for the pastoral care of his/her class in liaison with the Year Level Coordinator. Students in Years 7 – 10 meet in their class groups each morning and afternoon to deal with administrative and pastoral matters. The pastoral care period held once in each 10 day cycle is an opportunity for teachers and students to examine issues of concern and relevance to everyday life.
Pastoral Care is an integral part of the holistic care given to all students at Marist Regional College.
